made it through the first week!

well, it's saturday and i've officially made it through the first week. today is cheat day on the diet and boy am i taking advantage :) Liz says that eventually i won't want to cheat as much, but i'm not sure that i believe her right now. we went to sushi house for lunch and had some great food. i felt better when i woke up this morning that i have all week, so hopefully my body is getting somewhat used to all of this...

the rest of the day today is going to be pretty fun. i'm headed out to take the girls for a run and we've got some pigeons to set out for them. i love to see how they make good progress each and every time that we get out. they are fun to see do what God made them to do. sometimes i wish that i could be as carefree as to pursue what God made me to do fully...i'm still looking for what that even really is...

after the dogs, i'm going to do some musky fishing out at Palo. can't wait...i haven't fished since i came back from Canada 7-11-09. it is probably some kind of record for me to not have fished in that long during the summer months.

hopefully you're enjoying this awesome 'fall' day. i love this weather!

new milestones...

so today was my third day of working out...my legs and arms/shoulders hurt nearly all the time unless i'm eating, during which i'm not thinking about how much my body hurts :)

on first day of working out i just rode the bike for 20 minutes and then did some calf raises, push-ups, and sit-ups. i also weighed myself on the 'official' scale. i was able to ride for the full twenty minutes, but i was pretty gassed afterwards. i tried one of the elliptical machines, but couldn't really figure it out and felt like a rhino trying to run on a mouse wheel..so i gave up

yesterday i rode the 'random hill' bike program for 20 minutes and set it at level 12, thinking that it would be fine. well, i ended up adjusting the level several times because it made me feel like i wanted to quit...i know i'm kind of a wuss. i also worked on a bunch of the machines for my arms/shoulders, it actually felt good to do some curls, incline press, and lat pull downs. i decided to try a different elliptical machine at the very end of my work out and although i felt more comfortable on this one, i could only get after it for about 4 minutes...whew!

today was better, i hit a couple of new milestones which i am actually a little bit proud of. i was able to ride the bike for 20 minutes on level 12 (i wasn't gonna let that thing beat me) without changing the level. i immediately went to the elliptical that i ran on yesterday and set the timer for 10 minutes on the 'fat burn' program, after all that is what i'm getting up before dawn to do. i was able to run the entire 10 minutes on the elliptical and keep it movin the whole time. baby steps when you're as out of shape as I am....

in more exciting things - it has rained here for almost 36 hours. i'm getting real tired of it. i'd really like to go out and run the dogs on some pigeons tonight, but i think that mother nature probably won't allow it...if i get stuck at home, i'll probably red box 'i love you, man' because i've been hearing some funny lines from it and need to see it

yesterday we celebrated my mother's birthday - she is an awesome lady and one of the MOST caring people that i know...she cares about people in a way that i hope to be able to even comprehend someday - here's to 51 more years, mom :)

i'm getting kinda pissed that i haven't seen any pics a good friend's little baby girl too...Taylor Joby Allen was born yesterday to Thomas and Kathryn Allen. Thomas has a huge uni-brow...i'm really hoping that Taylor doesn't have one too...if she does then i could see why there would be a 20 hour delay in getting pictures sent out...that is the only logical explanation to me - babies probably can't get their eyebrows waxed until they are at least 24 hours old???

the new me

for the past 10 weeks my wife has taken an extreme bodyshaping course called 'max-10'. it involves working out every morning at 5:30 AM and eating six small healthy meals everyday. i thought it was totally wacko when i first heard about it, but was intrigued when some friends from work and her all had great results over the summer...the class is officially over and the next session begins in three weeks. i've been inspired to start working out and eating healthy

six months ago if you would have asked me to eat meatballs made of ground turkey, flaxseed, whole wheat bread crumbs, onion, and garlic i would have told you to shut-up and meet me at Buffalo Wild Wings. well last night, guess what i had for supper? yup... you guessed it. meatballs with a sauce of half Ragu and half plain tomato sauce with whole wheat spaghetti and snap peas...holy cow!

i've also started working out every morning...yeah i said it, i'm going to be working back towards fitness over the coming months...i'd really like to see my 60th birthday w/out having open heart surgery!

so here is what I've had to eat today:

breakfast - GoLean instant oatmeal w/ dried cherries & yoplait light yogurt - ~ 300 calories
snack- carrot chips w/ natural peanut butter & string cheese - ~ 300 calories
lunch - leftover lunch from yesterday - ? calories
snack - powerbar - 230 calories

yesterday i had a healthy choice 'steamers' lunch meal that was general tso's chicken, do you konw how many pieces of chicken are in those things? . . . four :( but it is only about 320 calories. it must be good for you?

i'm sure you'll hear more about this diet...oh by the way, i was talking last night with some friends about this diet and we were talking about how the organic food is probably better for you, but the cost is almost prohibitive at times. i made the comment that liz and i eat a lot deer meat and that is about as organic as it gets, however one of them pointed out that the deer meat would probably not be 'certified organic' because the deer could have dined on food that had pesticides on it! HAHA! True...I'm going to be try not to be a freakshow about this health thing.

the first one

if you're here you probably know me, but here is a few things that define me:

i am a Christ follower, never perfect at it...
i love my wife, Liz and our dogs, Chloe (Brittany) and Piper (Llewellin Setter)
i work doing something that pays the bills, but isn't my passion
my passions are music and the outdoors
i'm what you may call a bigger fella and i love Buffalo Wild Wings

many of the posts in this blog will have something to do with the above 5 things...

if none of them interest you, you may want to move on...
